Hybrid cars have become the most rational option for the Moroccan urban driver in 2026. The market distinguishes two families: HEV (classic hybrid) such as the Toyota Corolla Hybrid or Honda Civic Hybrid — the battery recharges while driving, no plug needed. PHEV (plug-in hybrid) such as the Peugeot 308 / 408 / 508 or VW Tiguan eHybrid — larger battery (10-15 kWh), 50-65 km in 100% electric mode with home charging.
On the fiscal side, hybrids benefit from a 25% reduction on the vignette (TSAV) — not a full exemption like 100% electric. Typical savings: 200-1,000 MAD/year by fiscal HP. Fuel saved is more significant: 25-35% less than an equivalent ICE car, i.e. 6,000-8,000 MAD/year for 20,000 km/year.
Best-selling hybrids in Morocco 2026: Toyota Corolla Hybrid (entry at 269,000 MAD, ~3,200 units sold 2025) remains the VTC + corporate-fleet reference. Toyota RAV4 Hybrid (419,000 MAD) dominates the C-SUV hybrid segment. Hyundai Tucson Hybrid (~409,000 MAD) growing fast. PHEV side: VW Tiguan eHybrid and Peugeot 408 PHEV share the 400-500k MAD segment.
