Pros

  • Exceptional design — unique crossover-coupé in the MA market
  • 64 km full-electric range — covers Casa-Rabat one-way
  • 471 L boot expandable to 1,545 L — more practical than a sedan
  • i-Cockpit with 10" screen + 3D cluster
  • 190 mm ground clearance — usable on coastal tracks and gravel roads

Watch out for

  • 419-489k MAD ticket — high positioning
  • Lower rear window cuts headroom in 2nd row
  • Without charging, hybrid mode consumes 5.8 L/100 km (PHEV advantage lost)

Our verdict

The Peugeot 408 2026 (single generation launched 2022, restyled 2024) is a new format invented by Peugeot — a crossover-coupé mixing fastback sedan aesthetics (light-claw signature), raised SUV ground clearance (190 mm), and compact-wagon practicality. Position in the lineup: between the 308 (compact) and 3008 (SUV). In Morocco, Centrale Peugeot Maroc offers the PHEV Hybrid 180: 1.6 PureTech turbo + electric motor = 180 hp combined, 12.4 kWh battery, 64 km full-electric range WLTP, EAT8 8-speed gearbox. Three trims: Allure (419k), GT (459k), GT Pack (489k).\n\nAt this price (419-489k MAD), the 408 takes on the Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid (~519k+ MAD, possible 7-seat), Mercedes A-Class 250e (~559k+ MAD, premium), Renault Austral E-Tech (~449k+ MAD, full hybrid), Volvo XC40 Recharge (~599k+ MAD). The 408's profile is unique in Morocco: not quite SUV, not quite sedan, visually distinctive (among the most recognisable cars in segment), with 64 km electric range for urban trips. Strengths: exceptional design (i-Cockpit + 3-claw light signature + 19/20" wheels), 4 km extra EV range vs 308 PHEV, 471 L boot (1,545 L expanded) more practical than a sedan. Weaknesses: 419-489k ticket positions high, charging needed to benefit from PHEV (otherwise hybrid mode 5.8 L/100 km), only 3 / 4 truly comfortable seats (lower rear window cuts headroom).

How we calculate

The most accurate used-car estimator in Morocco. Our prices are calibrated on the real Moroccan market: official dealer prices, resale ranges observed on the leading second-hand platforms, brand-by-brand resilience (Toyota, Renault and Dacia hold their value better; German premium drops faster after year 4; Chinese newcomers depreciate faster), a progressive mileage penalty and segment-level variance. Methodology continuously updated.

Frequently asked

How much does the Peugeot 408 cost in Morocco in 2026?
The 408 PHEV starts at 419,000 MAD for Allure, 459,000 MAD for GT, and 489,000 MAD for GT Pack. All PHEV 1.6 PureTech + electric 180 hp combined EAT8 FWD. Centrale Peugeot Maroc 2026 prices, excluding options and registration.
408 or 308 — which to pick?
Different format. The 308 (339-419k MAD) is a classic compact hatchback, lower, more sedan-like. The 408 (419-489k MAD) is a crossover-coupé: 80k MAD more expensive, 4 cm longer, 4 cm taller (190 mm ground clearance vs 145 mm 308), more striking design, 4 km extra EV range (64 vs 60 km). Verdict: 308 if you value price + compact urban format; 408 if you value design + tall stance + distinctive look.
Does the 408 have real off-road capability?
Limited. 190 mm ground clearance allows driving on moderate gravel tracks (Essaouira coastal areas, Asilah beach access, unpaved Atlas inland roads) without risking the underbody. But it is NOT an SUV: FWD only (no 4×4), road tyres (no off-road), sedan suspension. For real Atlas-Merzouga off-road, you need a Hilux or Land Cruiser. The 408 targets the 'urban explorer', not the adventurer.
How much does it cost to charge a 408 PHEV at home?
Full charge of the 12.4 kWh battery on a 220V household outlet: ~6h, cost ~14 MAD (2026 ONEE rate ~1.15 MAD/kWh effective). For 64 km in 100% electric: equivalent to 22 MAD/100 km in energy vs ~52 MAD/100 km on gasoline (at 12.5 MAD/litre). 60% savings vs gasoline on urban trips. A 7 kW wallbox installed for 12,000 MAD charges in 2h (useful if multiple cycles per day). On the motorway (without charging), the 408 PHEV reverts to hybrid mode at 5.8 L/100 km.
