Our verdict

The Renault Austral E-Tech 2026 (launched 2022, restyled 2024) is Renault's new C-SUV flagship in Morocco. CMF-CD platform shared with the Nissan Qashqai, E-Tech full hybrid powertrain: 1.2 turbo gasoline + 2 electric motors + auto-engaging multi-mode gearbox = 200 hp combined and 4.6 L/100 km mixed. No diesel version, no 4×4 in Morocco.

At this price, the Austral competes with the Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid (~519k MAD, PHEV), Peugeot 3008 Hybrid (~439k MAD), Hyundai Tucson Hybrid (~409k MAD), and Toyota RAV4 Hybrid (~419k MAD). Strengths: hybrid without external charging (the HEV recharges while driving), optional 4-wheel steering on Iconic (reduces turning circle from 5.1 m to 4.8 m), 12.3" OpenR Link screen with Google Auto, premium cabin (Alpine inserts, optional leather upholstery). Weaknesses: 449k entry ticket = 110k more than diesel Kadjar, multi-mode gearbox can hesitate at low load, boot capacity reduced by hybrid battery (487 L vs 575 L Tucson).

How we calculate

The most accurate used-car estimator in Morocco. Our prices are calibrated on the real Moroccan market: official dealer prices, resale ranges observed on the leading second-hand platforms, brand-by-brand resilience (Toyota, Renault and Dacia hold their value better; German premium drops faster after year 4; Chinese newcomers depreciate faster), a progressive mileage penalty and segment-level variance. Methodology continuously updated.

Frequently asked

Is the Austral a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or full hybrid (HEV)?
The Austral E-Tech in Morocco is a full hybrid (HEV) — no external plug needed, the 2 kWh battery recharges while driving via brake regen and ICE management. That's different from a PHEV (like the VW Tiguan eHybrid), which has a ~14 kWh battery rechargeable from an outlet and delivers 50+ km in 100% electric mode.
What is the Austral's real-world fuel consumption in Morocco?
Claimed at 4.6 L/100 km mixed WLTP. In real Moroccan use: 5.5-6.0 L/100 km on motorway (AC 28-35 °C), 4.0-4.5 L/100 km in urban Casa/Rabat (where hybrids shine). Savings vs equivalent ICE SUV: ~25-30%, or about 6,000 MAD/year for 20,000 km/year at 2026 gasoline prices.
Austral or Hyundai Tucson Hybrid — which to pick?
The Tucson Hybrid (~409k MAD) is 40k MAD cheaper with a 1.6 T-GDi + electric 230 hp combined powertrain (vs 200 hp Austral). The Tucson has a larger boot (575 L vs 487 L) and more modern design (Parametric Hidden Lights). The Austral wins on screen (12.3" vs 10.25"), native Google Auto, and the 4-wheel-steering option. Close call: Tucson if you value space + design; Austral if you value tech + urban agility.
Is there a 4WD or diesel Austral in Morocco?
No. Renault Maroc only offers the E-Tech full hybrid 200 hp in FWD. For 4WD at Renault: no option. For diesel: see the Renault Kadjar dCi (339k MAD), which remains in the catalogue specifically for that need.
