Pros

  • Best-selling car on the Moroccan market, excellent resale value
  • Made in Morocco (Tangier plant), cheapest parts in segment
  • E-Tech full-hybrid version at 4.3 L / 100 km
  • Densest Renault network in the country

Watch out for

  • Rear cabin space behind a Hyundai i20
  • E-Tech hybrid costly to buy (+50,000 MAD vs TCe 130)
  • 391 L boot is decent but unremarkable

Our verdict

The Renault Clio is the best-selling car in Morocco, and has been almost every year since the Clio II arrived in 1998. Across all generations, it represents over 12% of the Moroccan market's annual registrations — a figure no other model, brand included, comes close to. Better still: the Clio sold in Morocco is built in Morocco, at Renault's Tangier-Med Sud plant, one of Africa's largest automotive facilities. That same plant exports to France, Spain, Italy, Germany and 70+ markets worldwide — placing the Clio in a unique position: a "Made in Morocco" product recognised globally, with the most accessible parts and aftersales network in the country.

The current model is the Clio 5 "phase 2", the 2024 facelift of the model originally launched in 2019 on the Renault Group's CMF-B platform (shared with the Captur, Mégane and Dacia Duster III). The facelift brings a new front bumper inspired by the Renault 5 electric concept, a Renault diamond lighting signature, full LED matrix headlamps on the upper trims, and a fully redesigned interior. It's probably the deepest facelift ever performed on a Clio: Renault has replaced the previous central screen with a new 10" digital cluster and a 9.3" touchscreen running the OpenR Link / Android Automotive system (native Google), an interface developed in partnership with Google that includes Google Maps, Google Assistant and the Play Store directly inside the car — no need for a connected smartphone.

The exterior design stays true to Clio DNA: compact (4.06 m long, perfect for the narrow streets of Casablanca, Rabat and Marrakech), sporty without aggression, with balanced proportions. Phase 2 adds character through the new lights and grille, without changing the overall silhouette. Inside, the improvement over phase 1 is clear: new soft-touch materials on the dashboard, trim-specific upholstery (recycled jersey on upper trims), physical climate controls preserved (a definite plus against Volkswagen's drift toward "all-touch"), volume wheel kept on the steering wheel.

Three powertrains in the Renault Maroc 2026 catalog, covering three distinct use cases. The TCe 90 (1.0 L turbo petrol, 90 hp, 5-speed manual) is the classic entry trim: cheap to buy (169,000 MAD), simple, sufficient for primarily urban use. WLTP fuel consumption is 5.2 L / 100 km — expect 6.5-7 L / 100 km in real-world Moroccan mixed use. The TCe 130 (1.3 L turbo, 130 hp, 7-EDC dual-clutch automatic) is the versatile compromise: enough torque for highway runs, smooth automatic gearbox in town, 5.5 L / 100 km WLTP. But the headline powertrain is the E-Tech 145 full-hybrid (no external charging required, in the manner of a Toyota Yaris hybrid): a 1.6 L petrol engine of 94 hp + 2 electric motors (a primary 36 kW unit + a 15 kW alternator-starter), 1.2 kWh lithium-ion battery, multimode automatic gearbox, for 145 combined hp and only 4.3 L / 100 km on the WLTP cycle — the lowest consumption in Morocco's entire B-segment, with no external charging needed. It's the version that makes sense for those covering more than 15,000 km/year: the 30,000 MAD premium over the TCe 130 EDC pays back in about 4 years at 14 MAD per litre of petrol.

The official Renault Maroc 2026 lineup. Authentic TCe 90 (169,000 MAD) includes manual A/C, DAB+ digital radio, the 7" touchscreen, electric front windows, ABS, ESC, 6 airbags, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection — a safety level that makes it, despite its entry price, one of the best-equipped entry trims in Morocco's B-segment. Evolution TCe 130 EDC (199,000 MAD) adds the 7-EDC automatic gearbox, the 9.3" OpenR Link / Android Automotive touchscreen, reversing camera, 16" alloy wheels, the digital cluster, single-zone automatic A/C, adaptive cruise control, and wireless smartphone charging. Esprit Alpine E-Tech 145 (229,000 MAD) carries the Evolution equipment and adds the hybrid powertrain, the Esprit Alpine sport trim (specific upholstery with Alpine-blue stitching, dedicated badging, sport front seats), 17" wheels, full LED headlamps, and a panoramic glass roof.

In the Moroccan 2026 catalog, the Clio remains without direct rival on its overall promise. The B-segment includes the Hyundai i20 (from around 159,000 MAD, but with stripped-back trims), the Toyota Yaris (≥ 189,000 MAD for the combustion TCh), the Suzuki Swift (limited distribution), the Kia Picanto (a notch below), and the new Chinese arrivals (BYD Dolphin EV at 269,000 MAD, in another price category). None offers simultaneously the Renault network, used-market value (the Clio typically retains 70-75% of its new price at 3 years), local production, and an entry price under 170,000 MAD for a car this well-equipped. Its only identified weakness: rear-seat space lags behind a Hyundai i20, more generous for families of 4 adults.

Our verdict: the Clio 5 phase 2 remains the default car of the Moroccan market for most new-car buyers. The best used-market value in the B-segment, the densest Renault network in the country, local production at Tangier-Med, the OpenR Link system on native Google, and now a real hybrid alternative E-Tech at 4.3 L / 100 km make it a difficult choice to argue against for buyers seeking a versatile, reliable and cheap-to-run city car. If your annual mileage exceeds 15,000 km, the E-Tech 145 hybrid version is the optimal pick — it's the one that recasts the TCO calculation in the Clio's favour against the Asian rivals. Otherwise, the TCe 130 EDC remains the best price-equipment-comfort compromise in segment.

How we calculate

The most accurate used-car estimator in Morocco. Our prices are calibrated on the real Moroccan market: official dealer prices, resale ranges observed on the leading second-hand platforms, brand-by-brand resilience (Toyota, Renault and Dacia hold their value better; German premium drops faster after year 4; Chinese newcomers depreciate faster), a progressive mileage penalty and segment-level variance. Methodology continuously updated.
