The SUV segment in Morocco in 2026
The SUV has become the dominant format of the Moroccan auto market. In 2026, nearly 35% of new sales belong to the segment, up from 28% in 2021. Three drivers explain the shift: superior driving comfort on Moroccan secondary roads (Atlas, Sefrou road, Imouzzer road), ground clearance that secures over speed bumps, and an image of modernity that compact sedans no longer project as strongly.
On segment split, C-SUV (Tucson, Tiguan, RAV4, 3008) leads with ~45% of SUV sales. B-SUV (2008, Captur, Duster) follows at ~30%, then D-SUV (Q5, X3, GLC) at ~15%, and electric SUVs in rapid growth (~10% and accelerating thanks to BYD). PHEV powertrains are gaining ground since the arrival of the Tiguan eHybrid and BYD DM-i models.
Best petrol and diesel SUVs
On pure petrol-diesel, three models lead sales. The Hyundai Tucson (from 359,000 MAD) remains the C-segment best-seller: distinctive design, generous equipment at entry price, 5-year/100,000 km warranty. The VW Tiguan III (from 419,000 MAD) takes the lead on perceived quality and used-car residual value (~65-70% at 3 years vs 60-65% for the Tucson). The Peugeot 3008 (from 389,000 MAD) keeps a French premium signature with the polarising but memorable i-Cockpit.
In B-segment (4.3 m long), the Peugeot 2008 and the Dacia Duster 4th gen define the two extremes: 2008 premium above 250,000 MAD, Duster pragmatic under 230,000 MAD. The 2026 Duster facelift (CMF-B) dramatically reworks interior and ergonomics without touching the entry price — its proposition stays unbeatable.
Best hybrid SUVs (HEV + PHEV)
The Hyundai Tucson HEV (459,000 MAD, full self-charging hybrid) consumes 5.8 L/100 km WLTP — that's 35,000 MAD saved over 100,000 km versus its petrol equivalent. A solid choice for dense urban use (Casablanca, Rabat) where the hybrid frequently switches to 100% electric at lights and in stop-and-go.
On PHEVs, the VW Tiguan eHybrid R-Line (549,000 MAD) is currently without direct competition in Morocco with its 105 km of 100% electric range (WLTP) — a C-SUV segment record. The BYD Seal U DM-i (379,000 MAD) offers a similar approach at a more aggressive price but with shorter EV range (~80 km). If you charge at home and drive less than 80 km/day on weekdays, your usage cost with a PHEV drops below that of a pure EV.
Best electric SUVs
The BYD Atto 3 (from 339,000 MAD) remains the best-selling electric SUV in Morocco for 2026. 420 km WLTP range, 88 kW DC charging, build quality markedly improved over the first imported units. Its price/range/equipment proposition is unrivalled below 400,000 MAD.
For those seeking more highway comfort, the BYD Sealion 7 (from 519,000 MAD) offers the more sophisticated e-Platform 3.0, 605 km of range for the Long Range version, and a clearly improved chassis. It's currently the most accomplished Chinese electric SUV sold in Morocco.
