Our verdict

The VW Tiguan is the best-selling European family SUV in Morocco, and has been almost without interruption since the first generation arrived in 2008. The third generation (codenamed AD2 / MQB Evo) was unveiled globally in early 2024 and on sale in Morocco from the end of that year through Centrale Automobile Chérifienne (CAC), the historic Volkswagen Group distributor in the Kingdom. It is today one of the most complete C-SUVs on the Moroccan market — not the cheapest, but the one that combines class-reference perceived quality, one of the best residual values in segment, and the most accomplished eHybrid PHEV version in its category.

The Tiguan III sits on the Volkswagen Group's MQB Evo platform, a major evolution of the MQB base launched in 2012 (used on the previous generation). This platform brings a chassis approximately 15% stiffer, better road-noise isolation, and the ability to integrate a high-voltage battery of meaningful capacity for the PHEV version. Dimensions grow: 4.53 m long (+3 cm), 1.84 m wide, 1.64 m tall, with a 2.68 m wheelbase. The boot reaches 652 L (1,650 L seats folded) on combustion versions and 490 L on the eHybrid (the battery occupies part of the underfloor) — above the segment average in all cases.

The exterior design is more consensual than the Hyundai Tucson's: a recognisable Volkswagen signature, a more pronounced grille, IQ.Light Matrix LED headlamps from the Elegance trim onward, a flowing line without overload. Inside, it's a clean break: the entire dashboard is redesigned around a new 10.25" digital cluster and a 12.9" portrait-format central screen running the Volkswagen MIB4 system (with backlit menus, persistent touch climate controls, integrated ChatGPT). Materials live up to Volkswagen standards — foamed surfaces above the beltline, ArtVelours / Vienna leather upholstery on upper trims, 30-colour personalisable ambient lighting. Ergonomics remain uneven, however: VW persists with non-haptic touch climate controls, which disorients while driving. That's the interior's main perceived flaw.

Three powertrains in the Moroccan 2026 catalog — none in diesel, VW having permanently closed the TDI era on this segment in Morocco post-Dieselgate. The 1.5 eTSI (48V mild-hybrid petrol, 150 hp, DSG 7) is the entry trim: moderate torque (250 Nm) but contained consumption at 7.3 L / 100 km WLTP thanks to cylinder deactivation and the 48V system that assists restarts. The 1.5 eTSI 150 hp also remains available on the mid Elegance trim. The headline powertrain is the eHybrid plug-in (PHEV) on the R-Line trim: a 1.5 TSI 150 hp petrol engine + a 116 hp electric motor + a 19.7 kWh usable battery, for 204 combined hp and above all an electric range of 105 km on the WLTP cycle — an absolute class record in C-SUVs in 2026 (the previous eHybrid capped at 50 km, and most rival PHEVs don't exceed 70 km). Concretely, a Casablanca commuter charging at home each night barely touches petrol on weekday school runs, errands and office trips, while keeping the combustion engine's flexibility for weekend drives to Marrakech or Tangier. AC 11 kW home charging (full charge in 2.5 h) or DC 50 kW (10-80% in 25 minutes).

Three trims at Centrale Automobile Chérifienne. Life 1.5 eTSI (419,000 MAD) includes the 10.25" digital cluster, the 12.9" central screen, dual-zone automatic A/C, 17" wheels, LED headlamps, autonomous emergency braking and active lane keeping. Elegance 1.5 eTSI (469,000 MAD) adds IQ.Light Matrix LED headlamps, ArtVelours / leather upholstery, heated front seats, 19" wheels, front and rear parking aid with 360° cameras, 30-colour ambient lighting and the premium Harman Kardon audio system. R-Line eHybrid (549,000 MAD) carries the Elegance equipment and adds the R-Line styling pack (specific bumpers, 20" wheels, sport upholstery), the PHEV powertrain with its 19.7 kWh battery, eDrive mode, the heat pump (crucial in winter), and Level 2+ ADAS (Travel Assist with automatic lane following).

In Morocco's C-SUV segment, the Tiguan III faces the Hyundai Tucson (359,000

  • 459,000 MAD), Kia Sportage, Toyota RAV4 hybrid, Peugeot 3008 and Audi Q3 (a notch up). The Tiguan's entry price (419,000 MAD) is 60,000 MAD higher than the Tucson Pulse, but its R-Line eHybrid PHEV version at 549,000 MAD has no direct rival in Morocco — no PHEV in segment offers more than 70 km of pure-electric range at a comparable price. That's the headline argument that justifies the Tiguan premium: if you charge at home and drive less than 100 km/day on weekdays, your running cost falls below that of a fully-electric Atto 3.

Our verdict: the Tiguan III is the reference C-SUV in 2026 in Morocco — unmatched perceived quality, an eHybrid version with class-leading EV range, the strongest residual value in segment (~65-70% of new price at 3 years vs 60-65% for a Tucson). It's not the cheapest to buy, but the 5-year TCO calculation (purchase + fuel + maintenance - resale) often places it ahead of rivals for drivers above 20,000 km/year. The R-Line eHybrid deserves particular attention: if your daily trips are under 80 km and you can charge at home, you get a daily electric vehicle and a combustion vehicle for long trips — without the range compromise of a pure EV on the A1 to Tangier or the A3 to Marrakech.

How we calculate

The most accurate used-car estimator in Morocco. Our prices are calibrated on the real Moroccan market: official dealer prices, resale ranges observed on the leading second-hand platforms, brand-by-brand resilience (Toyota, Renault and Dacia hold their value better; German premium drops faster after year 4; Chinese newcomers depreciate faster), a progressive mileage penalty and segment-level variance.
