Pros
- German ZF 8HP automatic — better-spaced than rival 6-speeds
- Electrically-locking rear differential standard on every trim
- Lavish equipment (dual 12.3" screens, level-2 ADAS, powered leather) at 150k MAD below a comparable Hilux
- 5-year / 150,000 km warranty, among the longest in the Moroccan pickup segment
Watch out for
- Residual value to be confirmed — brand too recent in Morocco for a reliable 5-year price history
- Service network still being built outside major cities (vs 12+ Toyota dealers in rural areas)
- Mechanical longevity yet to be proven against the legendary Hilux diesel (300,000+ km routine)
Our verdict
The GWM Poer (pronounced "power"; also known as "Cannon" in Australia and "P-Series" in South Africa) is GWM's high-end 1-tonne pickup, imported into Morocco by SODICOM (CFAO Morocco) since 2024-2025. It represents China's most accomplished strategy in this segment: deliver a product that ticks every technical box on the Hilux/D-Max/Ranger spec sheet (body-on-frame ladder chassis, engageable 4x4, 8-speed auto, turbo-diesel, standard payload and towing ratings), while adding an equipment level typically reserved for premium European SUVs — all at a price that starts 25 to 40% below the Japanese references.
The exterior figures say a lot: 5.42 m long, 1.93 m wide, 1.89 m tall, 3.23 m wheelbase. It's a grown-up pickup, longer than a Hilux Double Cab (5.32 m) and a Ford Ranger (5.37 m), with a 1.52 m × 1.52 m bed that carries a standard Euro pallet between the wheel arches. Payload rating is 1,050 kg and braked towing capacity reaches 3,200 kg — just under the 3,500 kg of the Hilux but enough for 95% of Moroccan professional use cases (livestock trailer, jobsite loads, jet-skis, cross bikes). Ground clearance of 232 mm, 29° approach angle and 25° departure angle put it at Hilux Adventure level off-road.
Under the hood, a single diesel in the Moroccan catalog: the 2.0L GW4D20M turbo-diesel producing 163 to 184 hp depending on trim and 400 to 480 Nm of torque. It is invariably paired with a ZF 8HP automatic — the world's benchmark auto transmission, the same one fitted to the BMW 5 Series, Land Rover Range Rover, and VW Amarok. That's a major technical argument: where the Hilux settles for an in-house 6-speed auto and the D-Max for an Aisin 6-speed, the Poer offers 8 German ratios — smoother, better-spaced, more efficient. The engageable 4x4 transmission offers 2H / 4H / 4L modes (low range), with an electrically-locking rear differential standard on every trim — optional or absent on most rivals. Claimed mixed consumption is 8.9 L / 100 km; expect 10-11 L / 100 km in real Moroccan mixed use.
Inside, the contrast with the Japanese rivals is striking. The central screen is a 12.3-inch landscape unit with wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto, backed by a 12.3-inch digital cluster facing the driver. Front seats are in synthetic leather with 6-way power adjustment, memory on the driver's side, heating on higher trims. Climate control is dual-zone automatic. You get wireless charging, multiple USB-A and USB-C outlets, an 8-speaker audio system, a panoramic sunroof from mid-trim. The level-2 GWM Pilot ADAS pack is standard and includes: adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane departure warning with active steering correction, blind-spot alert, rear cross-traffic alert, 360° camera. No diesel pickup sold in Morocco below 450,000 MAD offers this equipment combination.
The range is structured around three trims at SODICOM. Comfort (289,000 MAD, 163 hp) covers the basics: 12.3" screen, auto A/C, 17" wheels, reversing camera, basic ADAS, optional hardtop. Luxury (329,000 MAD, 184 hp) steps up to 184 hp, adds leather upholstery, heated electric seats, sunroof, 18" wheels, 360° camera and the full ADAS pack. Ultimate (379,000 MAD, 184 hp) takes the Luxury and adds two-tone paint, 20" wheels, illuminated running boards, Nappa leather, 8-speaker audio, and an "offroad" trim with underbody skid plates, snorkel-ready prep, and a specific sticker package.
On the Moroccan market, the Poer directly faces the Toyota Hilux Double Cab (from 449,000 MAD, 8-9 years into its cycle), Isuzu D-Max Double Cab (from 359,000 MAD, more utilitarian, less equipped), Ford Ranger (from 429,000 MAD, road-comfort benchmark), Mitsubishi L200 (from 379,000 MAD, end-of-generation), and VW Amarok 2nd gen (from 519,000 MAD, Ranger-derived). Its knockout argument: a fully-equipped Poer Luxury costs 329,000 MAD, versus 489,000 MAD minimum for a Hilux Lounge at equivalent spec. Over 5 years, with reasonable depreciation, the gap can finance a second family car.
Where the Poer loses points: residual value remains an unknown (brand too recent in Morocco — no 5+ year history, versus a 70-75% Hilux residual at 3 years, an unbeatable figure), the service network outside Casablanca / Rabat / Tangier / Marrakech / Agadir is still being built (versus 12+ Toyota dealers reaching Errachidia, Ouarzazate and Tan-Tan), and fuel TCO on the turbo-petrol variants deserves watching vs the legendary Hilux diesel for mechanical longevity (300,000+ km commonplace). Toyota also keeps the edge on extreme sustained use (Sahara jobsites, long desert touring expeditions) where reliability is a religion.
Our verdict: the 2026 GWM Poer is the best equipment-capability-price ratio in Morocco's pickup segment, an obvious choice for the farmer, jobsite artisan or 4x4-leisure private buyer who refuses to pay the "Toyota premium" for sub-200,000 km use. For heavy rural users targeting 300,000+ km or long desert expeditions, the Hilux remains the safe value — but for everyone in between, the Poer redefines the value-for-money benchmark.

How we calculate
The most accurate used-car estimator in Morocco. Every estimate blends three signals: (1) official new-car prices published by Moroccan importers (source: our verified model fiches), (2) real listings posted by actual private and professional sellers across the main Moroccan used-car marketplaces for the same brand + model + year (±2 years), and (3) brand-specific depreciation curves calibrated on the Moroccan market (Toyota, Renault and Dacia hold value better; German premium drops faster after year 4; Chinese newcomers depreciate faster). We also apply a −5 to −10 % adjustment to convert asking-price into real transaction price (typical Moroccan negotiation margin). The calculation is regenerated on every new observation; models with at least 3 recent listings are flagged "Observed data" in the result. The (model, year, mileage) cache is refreshed every 30 days or when the new-car price shifts by more than 5 %.
