Carte grise renewal in Morocco — 2026 procedure

How to renew a damaged, illegible or end-of-validity carte grise, or update it after an address change. Documents, online procedure via tasshilat.ma, cost and timing.

The essentials in 30 seconds

Carte grise renewal covers three main cases: damaged or illegible card, owner address change, or upgrade from the old paper format (pre-2019) to the new secure laminated format.

The procedure runs online on tasshilat.ma within 5 to 10 days for 150 to 250 MAD. You keep the same registration number and fiscal horsepower; only the document's appearance and any updated information change.

Documents needed

  • Current carte grise, even if damaged — bring it as-is to avoid suspicions of loss (which would make this a duplicate procedure, see our loss guide).
  • Owner's currently valid CIN.
  • Recent proof of address (< 3 months) — required especially for an address change.
  • Currently valid contrôle technique report (< 6 months) if your Regional Directorate requires it.

Procedure steps

  1. Identify the renewal reason

Four reasons NARSA recognises: damaged card (mechanical reading impossible, cracked plastic, faded ink), partial illegibility (faded fields but card intact), address change (move requiring update), or upgrade from old paper format to 2019 plastic format. The reason determines whether an extra document is required.

  2. Connect to tasshilat.ma

On tasshilat.ma, select "Carte grise renewal". Enter your registration number and chassis number. The system auto-loads vehicle info from the NARSA database. Tick the renewal reason and confirm the pre-filled data.

  3. Upload the documents

Scan your current carte grise (both sides), CIN (both sides), and proof of address if changing address. PDF or JPEG, max 5 MB per file. Verify that numbers and names are perfectly sharp — NARSA automatically rejects blurry scans.

  4. Pay online

Standard cost is 150 MAD for a simple renewal, 200-250 MAD if address change involves updating multiple fields. Payment by CMI bank card. You receive an email confirmation with the 12-digit tracking number.

  5. Collect the new card

Standard delay: 5-10 days. The new card arrives directly by Barid Al-Maghrib registered mail at your address. For simple renewals without address change, you also receive a PDF by email — usable immediately while waiting for the plastic version.

Don't forget

  • Don't throw away the old card before receiving the new one. In case of postal delay or mail loss, the old card remains your only valid proof until the new document arrives.
  • Renewal is not a duplicate. If the card is lost or stolen, that's a different procedure (see our loss/duplicate guide) involving a prior police report.
  • Update your address in parallel with your auto insurer and the perception (vignette). An up-to-date carte grise but insurance still showing the old address creates inconsistencies in case of road check or claim.

Frequently asked — Carte grise in Morocco

When is renewing the carte grise mandatory in Morocco?
Three situations make renewal mandatory: 1) the card is physically damaged to the point of preventing reading (problematic at road checks or in a sale), 2) you've moved and the address shown is no longer current (legal update required within 30 days), 3) the card is still in pre-2019 paper format (renewal strongly encouraged even if the old one is technically valid).
Does renewal change my registration number?
No. Renewal preserves the existing registration number, fiscal horsepower, owner name, and all vehicle technical data. Only these can change: document format (paper → plastic), owner address (in case of move), and issue date.
Can I renew without traveling?
Yes in nearly all cases. The procedure is fully digital on tasshilat.ma: online filing, card payment, home delivery by registered mail. Only pickup at your Regional Transport Directorate remains an option (instead of delivery) if you prefer — just tick the option at submission.
How much does renewal with an address change cost?
Standard rate is 150 MAD for a simple renewal. The address change typically adds 50-100 MAD depending on the Regional Directorate (update fees + extra stamp duties). The exact total appears on tasshilat.ma before payment.
What if my renewal application is rejected?
The system gives the precise reason (missing document, blurry scan, inconsistency). Log in to tasshilat.ma → "My applications" → click the rejected one → "Complete and resubmit". Fix the issue, re-upload the document, and the application restarts at no extra cost. If repeated rejection persists, request a physical appointment at your Regional Transport Directorate to clarify.
