Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Electric 2026: 1,169 hp with V8 sound simulation

Mercedes-AMG finally enters the electric era
Mercedes-AMG does nothing by halves: the new all-electric GT Coupé 4-door (2026) announces high-performance credentials and promises to recreate the sensations of a V8 combustion engine. A strategy aimed at convincing sports car enthusiasts who have so far been reluctant about electric powertrains.
Impressive specifications
The 63 model peaks at 1,169 hp (816 hp for the 55 variant), with performance close to the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT: 0–200 km/h in 6.4 seconds and 300 km/h top speed. Three axial-flux electric motors—two mounted at the rear—enable vectored torque delivery and optimized handling on winding roads.
Design and interior space
At 5.10 m long, the GT 4-door achieves a drag coefficient of 0.22 with aerodynamic wheel options (equivalent to the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT). Inside, the front cabin feels somewhat tight due to an imposing centre console and oversized 10.2" and 14" displays. Rear passengers up to 1.80 m tall enjoy adequate headroom and legroom.
The boot offers only 415 litres—modest compared to rivals. The lift-gate eases loading, while a small 41-litre "frunk" under the bonnet provides extra storage. Trim quality is impeccable, with optional stitched leather and carbon-fibre veneers.
Next-generation battery
Inspired by Formula 1, the 800V, 106 kWh net battery features an innovative architecture with 2,660 cylindrical cells immersed in non-conductive coolant oil. It delivers:
- Range: 695 km in mixed cycle
- Charging: 10–80% in 11 minutes (600 kW DC maximum)
- Energy recovery: up to 700 kW during deceleration
This setup ensures consistent power delivery across repeated acceleration cycles.
Synthetic "mechanical" sensations
Mercedes offers a complete simulation of the thermal experience: V8 sound from the AMG GT R, simulation of 9 gear ratios (manual or automatic via paddles), and a false tachometer scaled to 8,000 rpm. Whether these artifices convince purists remains up for debate.
Two variants available
The 55 produces 816 hp; the 63 reaches 1,169 hp maximum. Market availability announced for 27 May 2026.
