A high-stakes heist derailed

In the night of May 16–17, a spectacular car heist struck a basement parking lot in Paris's 15th arrondissement, on rue de l'ingénieur Robert-Keller. A criminal team forced their way into an ultra-secure car concierge service specializing in safeguarding prestige vehicles, leaving with 17 stolen cars.

A well-planned operation... that wasn't enough

The perpetrators had clearly thought through their scheme. According to witnesses and investigators, the gang knew the location and its security measures inside-out. By forcing a pedestrian entrance, they accessed secured vaults where vehicle keys were stored. Among the 17 stolen cars: at least one Ferrari 360 Spider, an Aston Martin, and a Lamborghini, along with premium models like a BMW 4x4.

Trapped by technology

But even the best-laid plans crumbled quickly. Within hours, the noose tightened as authorities recovered at least one vehicle using an embedded geolocation system—now standard on prestige cars. Security footage also allowed police to identify several gang members, despite precautions taken.

Twelve arrests cascade

The Anti-Banditry Brigade ramped up its efforts swiftly. By press time, twelve individuals had already been arrested, and the investigation continues. At this pace, the remaining members may face justice before the cars even leave French territory.

The real puzzle: what was their endgame?

What remains baffling is the thieves' actual objective. Standard premium vehicles like the BMW 4x4 can be stripped for parts or illegally exported. But how did they plan to sell or make disappear a Ferrari, a Lamborghini, or an Aston Martin? These highly distinctive, traceable vehicles cannot be laundered easily. Their components are documented, their chassis numbers monitored worldwide. Targeting these cars made the entire scheme virtually impossible to execute.

A sobering reminder for luxury owners

Despite cutting-edge CCTV systems and reinforced safes, no facility is completely burglar-proof. This incident underscores that vigilance remains essential, even at reputed secure parking facilities.
