A Twingo Reinvented Through Contemporary Art
Since its launch in 1992, the Twingo has become far more than just a practical city car. Recognized as a genuine icon of contemporary design, it continues to inspire creators around the world. The new Twingo E-Tech represents a successful modern reinterpretation of the original concept, moving beyond the less convincing iterations of 2007 and 2014.
Renault decided to take this artistic recognition further by entrusting the Twingo E-Tech to renowned American artist Joshua Vides. From April 8 to 13, during Renault's showcase on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, the artist performed a spectacular live transformation of the electric vehicle in front of audiences across two sessions. Spectators watched in amazement as Vides transfigured the car in real time.
Performance Between Reality and Imagination
Joshua Vides applied his distinctive graphic style to the Twingo, playing with black-and-white contrasts to immerse viewers in a world of sketches where fantasy meets reality. His pictorial approach, inspired by comic book language, oscillates between fiction and reality, transforming an industrial product into a genuine immersive artwork.
This artistic intervention bridges three distinct universes: contemporary art, automotive design, and popular culture. The Twingo becomes the vehicle for an original creative expression that amplifies the already singular personality of the electric model.
An Exhibition Worth Visiting
Joshua Vides' work is on display at Renault's new cultural space through June 9 as part of the "Pop Art Car" exhibition. The creation will subsequently join the Renault Foundation's art collection, confirming the Twingo's status as a cultural object beyond its automotive qualities.
This artistic recognition reflects the importance of the Twingo in European automotive history. For Moroccan buyers interested in innovative electric city cars, this project illustrates how design can transform a practical vehicle into an object of desire and conversation. It signals that even compact, utilitarian cars can achieve cultural significance when paired with visionary creativity.
